Format guide
Which image format should I use?
Photos for printing or archiving → JPG
JPG is the universal photo format. Every device, every app, every service opens it. If you have HEIC files from an iPhone, use HEIC to JPG. If you have WebP from a web download, use WebP to JPG.
Images for your website → WebP
WebP is 25–35% smaller than JPG and 50–80% smaller than PNG at the same visible quality. Use JPG to WebP for photos and PNG to WebP for graphics. Google counts WebP toward Core Web Vitals.
Screenshots and transparent graphics → PNG
PNG is lossless — no quality loss on save, and it keeps transparency. If you've got a PNG you need to email or embed somewhere that only accepts JPG, use PNG to JPG.
Mixed formats → use the universal converter
If you have a folder with JPGs, PNGs, HEICs and WebPs mixed together, drop them all into Convert to JPG or Convert to WebP — the converter detects each format and normalises everything to a single output type.
Frequently asked
Image conversion, answered.
Which image converter is fastest?
In-browser image conversion is near-instant for files under 5 MB because there is no upload step. On a typical laptop a 10-megapixel JPG converts to WebP in under 500 milliseconds. The only variable is the size of the source file and your device's CPU.
What's the difference between JPG, PNG and WebP?
JPG is best for photos — small files, lossy compression, no transparency. PNG is best for screenshots and graphics with text — larger files, lossless, supports transparency. WebP is best for websites — 25–80% smaller than JPG and PNG at the same quality, supports transparency and animation.
Will converting lose quality?
JPG to WebP preserves visible quality but shrinks file size. PNG to WebP is lossless by default. HEIC to JPG re-encodes once so there is a very small quality loss on the first conversion. Converting the same JPG twice compounds loss — convert from the original whenever possible.
Does HEIC to JPG preserve EXIF data?
Yes. The HEIC to JPG converter preserves date, GPS coordinates and camera metadata by default. If you'd rather strip metadata (for example before sharing a photo online), that option will land in a future release.
Can I convert multiple images at once?
Yes. All image converters accept multiple files in a single drop. Output is bundled into a ZIP archive you can download in one click. There is no per-file size cap.
